In a world where birth is often known as a mystery, I want to start on a blog
journey with a mission which has become close to my heart. As a birth doula, a
woman and a healing soul; my philosophy revolves around the belief that birth
should be an educated choice, support by a community that understands,
educates and embraces the essence of femininity and power. Your power. Reflecting
on my own journey, where the lack of education growing into a woman, left
me feeling disconnected from my body. I am passionate about empowering
women to recognize their control over their bodies, and hopefully get rid of the
notion that birth is an enigma waiting to betray them.
Birth is a natural and beautiful process (surprise). it is not foreign to a woman's
body, it should not be feared. Too often our society has influenced us otherwise.
The truth is that women are naturally in tune with their bodies. However, I believe
through education and understanding, we can crush the myths surrounding pregnancy and birth and create a sense of control that transforms the birthing experience into a beautiful holistic partnership between mind, body and soul. This is the future for us now.
Becoming a birth doula, I made a commitment to myself that extends beyond
providing just physical support during labor. I want to give you your power back,
by arming you with knowledge that allows you to approach birth with confidence
and informed decision-making. I am still on my own path to find my full power,
but I have learnt a lot, and the education I can offer isn't just about the anatomy of
birth; its a holistic exploration of a woman's journey, from understanding the deep
strengths of her anatomy; to embracing and understanding that she has the
unique strength of a woman to create life, and that is powerful.
Everyone that is involved in your woman's journey and birth plays a crucial role in
fostering an environment of understanding and support; and also should be
educated on how our bodies work. By breaking down our barriers of patriarchy,
disbelief, untrustworthiness in your own bodies ability, we can embrace and
create a environment that will uplift and empower women. I want every woman to
feel heard, valued and in control of her birthing experience and journey.
This blog is going to be a space where we unravel the layers of misinformation,
celebrate the strength within every woman, and foster a community of women
gathering together again like we did 100's of years ago. I want to invite you to
embark on my journey with me of empowerment, education and rediscovery of
my own (and yours) feminine powers that weave through our bodies, which are
the miracle makers of life.
You are strong, you are powerful, you are magical, you are inspiring.
Your Supportive Sister,
Shelly (.) (.)
